Abstract
The article analyzes the situation in the trade sphere of the regions of the east of the country belonging to the Far Eastern Federal District. The information base of the study was the official statistical indicators of Rosstat using the comparative geographical analysis method. The main indicators of the trade field of the regions of the East of Russia are analyzed (the turnover of wholesale and retail trade, the number of people employed in trade, the provision of the population with retail space, including areas of modern formats, the role of small business, the contribution of trade to the GRP, comparison with the dynamics of monetary incomes of the population). Data on retail and wholesale trade turnover per capita in comparable prices for the period 2018-2023, the availability of retail space for the population and the number of people employed in trade per 1,000 inhabitants are calculated. Among the eastern regions, according to the considered indicators, the Khabarovsk and Primorsky Territories, which have higher indicators of trade development, play a leading role. The lagging region is the Jewish Autonomous Region, leading only in terms of the availability of retail space. The low positions in the rating are occupied by the Trans-Baikal Territory, the Republic of Buryatia. Resource regions with developed extractive industries have low indicators of the contribution of trade to the GRP and employment, but they have good turnover indicators. The Far Eastern Federal District is less provided with modern retail space, with a lower share of retail chains in retail turnover than the Siberian Federal District.
