Abstract

The data of long-term observations at stationary meteorological stations located along the coastline (almost 2000 km long) of Lake Baikal are considered. The behavior of the ground wind has been analyzed in different seasons of the climate year (1997-2018). The material was processed in both polar (true observational records) and local Cartesian coordinate systems. Fragments of individual results for some climatic months-representatives of the year are given, namely: February, July, December. The demonstration choice is due to the fact that in February Baikal is usually completely covered with ice; July and December are the sharpest drop in water-land temperatures. So in December (compared to other months) for all stations of the coast can be noted the smallest number of calm situations, the most significant average and maximum velocity wind. The recurrence of calms on average increases by evening (local) time. In many Baikal stations, wind stability ratios are close, especially in December to North Atlantic trade winds. There is an interesting pattern: the more stable the wind, the more clearly there is an inverse correlation between the components of the wind speed vector, i.e. as if one of the components tends to keep the direction in a certain direction.
