Abstract
The article outlines the stages of development of the doctrine of geosystems, its fundamental principles and concepts: structural and dynamic landscape studies, the method of complex ordination, the axioms of the doctrine, and the relationship between geoecology and the doctrine of geosystems. The article also discusses the problems that may arise when solving regional problems based on the study of lower hierarchical units, and highlights the fundamental differences between the concept of geosystems and traditional approaches to landscape studies. The article provides an overview of the main achievements of the stationary research conducted by the staff of the Institute of Geography (Irkutsk) under the leadership of V. B. Sochava, who developed the concept of structure and dynamics in the theory of geosystems. At the present stage, the study of geosystem research methodology by geography students is aimed at developing their ability to use the acquired knowledge and skills in future professional activities related to solving problematic situations that arise during the development of natural resources. The materials presented in this article are based on an analysis of numerous publications on the theory and methodology of studying geosystems and the origins of their formation. The information provided in the article can serve as an information basis for solving professional tasks related to the implementation of systemic vision skills for the retrospective, current, and projected state of the natural environment, the processes and phenomena occuring in it, and the features of transformation both in natural conditions and during ongoing or planned anthropogenic activities.
