The article on the example of one of the districts of the Irkutsk region reveals the features and problems of the spatial organization of social infrastructure. The study was carried out on the basis of field and statistical studies, analysis of the territorial organization at several hierarchical levels from individual settlements and municipal centers to the district as a whole with the identification of administrative, managerial and transport links that ensure coordinated and interdependent placement of objects. The focus is on institutions that provide non-market consumer services to the population. The results of the study show that of the three subsystems of social infrastructure considered, the most balanced is the education system, the less developed part is the primary link in the medical care system. Objects of physical education and sports are mainly integrated into the structure of secondary and basic schools, which reduces their accessibility for primary school ages and adults. Given the insufficient funding of social institutions and depopulation in the study area, there has been a tendency to increase the territorial concentration of social infrastructure in large settlements – mainly urban-type settlements, which enhances internal territorial differentiation and will contribute to further degradation of medium-sized and the disappearance of small rural settlements.
